Mario Angelo D’Andrea, 89, a resident of The Winds at Mattern Orchard, died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at The Winds.  He was born April 14, 1921 in Bronx, NY, the son of the late Romualdo and Giovanna (Amabile) D’Andrea.   Mario married Jeannette M. Veroneau on July 25, 1959 in New York City, NY.  He retired at age 77 from RMS Technologies (Federal Aviation Administration) as an electrical engineer.  Mario graduated from Flushing High School, Flushing, NY, and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Brooklyn Polytech Institute.  He was a United States Army veteran of WWII serving in the Third Division, Company E, 7th Infantry Regiment involved in the landing at Anzio.  Mario attained the rank of Sergeant and was a Squadron Leader.  Mario received the Purple Heart, WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Campaign Medal with 4 Battle Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal.  He is survived by his wife, children, Mario and partner, Sam Rosenblatt of New York, NY, Barry and wife Jennifer of Duncansville, Mark and wife Kristen of Melrose, MA, and Gina of Philadelphia, 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, and his brother, Jean of CT.  Friends will be received from 9:30am – 11:30am on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 2309 Broad Avenue, Altoona.  A funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Tuesday, July 27 at the funeral home officiated by Richard J. Harter, Hospice Chaplain for Home Nursing Agency.  Interment with military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions to Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Attn: Contributions, One Intrepid Square, West 46th Street & 12th Avenue, New York, NY, 10035 (www.fallenheroesfund.org).

Service
A funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Tuesday, July 27 at the funeral home officiated by Richard J. Harter, Hospice Chaplain for Home Nursing Agency.
