Joseph Nicholas “Joe”
Salome, 84, of Golden Living Center-Hillview, died Tuesday, June 01, 2010 at
the home. He was born May 24, 1926 in
Altoona, the son of the late Nicklas and Mary (Guglizzo) Salome Musto. Joe married Colleen Delores Love on September
10, 1949 in Altoona. He was a member of
St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church.
Joe retired as a brakeman and conductor from Newburg & South Shore
Railroad in Ohio. Joe was a 1946
graduate of Altoona High School. He was
a United States Navy veteran of WWII and a United States Army veteran of the
Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Joe enjoyed gardening. He was a
member of the United Transportation Union.
Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years; children, William Joseph Salome
of Arizona and Delores Ann Paulus of Cleveland, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren
and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Salome Williams of Burbank,
CA and a brother, Anthony “Tony” Salome of Altoona. He was preceded in death by a daughter,
Jacalyn Lucarelli. Friends will be
received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2010 at E. Merrill Smith
Funeral Home, Inc., 2309 Broad Avenue, Altoona, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00
a.m., Friday, June 4, 2010 at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church,
officiated by Father Mark Begley.
Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery. In remembrance of Joe, those who wish may
make contributions to St. John The Evangelist Church, 309 Lotz Avenue,
Lakemont, Altoona, PA 16602.
Service
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2010 at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, officiated by Father Mark Begley.
