Wilda P. Jenkins

Wilda P. Jenkins, 81, of Altoona, formerly of 1112 51st Street, went home to be with the Lord after a brief courageous battle with cancer on Monday, February 1, 2010 at ARHS Altoona Hospital Campus.  She was born February 8, 1928 in Lakemont, the daughter of the late James and Clarabelle (Mangus) Yon.  Wilda married Junior Alton Jenkins on November 6, 1946 in Cumberland, MD.  He preceded her in death on January 4, 1996.  Wilda was a member of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God.  She was a 1946 graduate of Altoona High School.  Wilda loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her granddaughter’s dog Zeus.  She also enjoyed sewing and gardening.  Wilda was also an active volunteer for her church.  She is survived by her daughter, Marcy E. Calderwood and husband Patrick Kerry, grandchildren, Duane R. Snowberger and wife Nicole, Nathan T. Snowberger, DeAnna M. Calderwood and fiancée Mike Baldessaro, and Jeremy R. Calderwood, great grandchildren, Jordan, Pandora, Alanna and Teagan, brothers and sisters, Doris Jenkins, Patty McGinnis, Rieda Williams, Jimmy and Russell Yon.  She was preceded in death by her daughter Debbie M. Cruthers, and several brothers and sisters.  Friends will be received from 6:00-8:00pm on Thursday, February 4, 2010 and from 1:00-3:00pm on Friday, February 5, 2010 at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, 2309 Broad Avenue, Altoona.  A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, February 5 at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Henry Shaffer.  Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
